Magic Wand funding

I read an interesting article in the New York Times this Sunday discussing the balance between funding short-term projects and longer term operating support.

This ties in very neatly with the news that charities can now upload a "Magic Wand" funding proposal on theBigGive.org.uk. We define the Magic Wand as "the one greatest thing that would help support each charity".

While theBigGive.org.uk began by promoting discrete projects, we hope the Magic Wand section will give donors a chance to fund the long term operational support that can be so vital to the continuing success of the charity.

Suggestion: It would be very interesting to be able to see the stats for the number of times a project has been viewed, could this be incorporated?

We are working on a way to let donors view popular projects on the site. However, we don't want to put too much emphasis on numbers, as these stats don't differentiate between a donor worth £100m and a charity fundraiser.

Keep the suggestions coming!

I was thinking more from the POV of the charity, ie if I spend time setting up a project on the site, how many people have subsequently visited the description. If none - I'd be looking to do something different next time, if lots - I'd be a happy bunny. The stats wouldn't need to appear to anyone else.

I discussed some of the issues around the value of 'hits' in an earlier post.

We are consulting with some top charity fundraisers - and feeding in all comments on this blog - to ensure that we are addressing the charity point of view.
